Resume length rules have shifted. In 2026, quality and relevance matter more than a strict page count — but there are still clear guidelines by career stage.
Resume length by experience
- Students / freshers: 1 page
- 1–7 years experience: 1 page (2 only if highly relevant)
- 8–15 years: 1–2 pages
- Senior / executive / academic CV: 2+ pages acceptable
When two pages make sense
Use two pages if every line adds value — multiple relevant roles, technical depth, publications, or leadership scope. Never pad to fill space.
Signs your resume is too long
- Jobs from 15+ years ago with outdated skills
- Repeated bullet points across roles
- Hobbies unrelated to the job
